Imagine a new economy free of systemic racial and economic inequality, one that works for the people, places and planet. Well, New Economy Week is that opportunity to explore creative resistance to build an economy we need and one that shines a light on the efforts of everyday people trying to make this new kind of economy a reality.
Starting Monday and going through Wednesday, New Economy Week invites citizens in North America to join "online and in-person events that highlight successes, ask tough questions and give life to the claim that another world is possible."
This created space is not only for community leaders within the U.S. and Canada to express their work to the public, but it's a movement for innovators to "grow cooperative and community-owned enterprises, democratize and stabilize finance, find new ways to share skills and goods, new ways to measure success and new ways to meet growing human needs on an all too finite planet," according to the New Economy Week website.
The New Economy Coalition will host online panel series throughout the three-day event. The coalition also encourages that conversations continue in each community by organizing an event in your own community. Not only do they suggest you add the event to the map so others can join, New Economy Week provides you with event ideas through their Get Involved page.It is time to catalyze public conversation for systemic change and we support neighborhoods, cities, towns, and regions as the fertile ground for the kind of economy we need.
